Zach Galifianakis
The versatile actor was born on October 1, 1969 in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. From an early age he used to entertain people with his antics, even though he was raised in a Greek Orthodox atmosphere. He went to North Carolina State University and studied Communication and Film but did not get a degree. After flunking a course, he shifted to New York City in 1992. Initially he had dreamt of becoming an actor but instead he became a stand-up comic.
In 1996, Galifianakis got his first substantial break in television when he essayed the recurring role of a stoner named Bobby in the short-lived sitcom, Boston Common. In 2001, Galifianakis co-starred in the comedy movie ‘Out Cold', which did quite well. The following year, he hosted his own talk show ‘Late World with Zach' which was followed by a television role as a coroner Davis in the FOX drama ‘Tru Calling'. The show that lasted from 2003 to 2005 was quite popular.
Galifianakis essayed the role of Alan Finger, an incompetent director; on the Comedy Central show ‘Dog Bites Man'. The hilarious show is all about a bogus news program that caught people during candid moments as they acted under the notion that they were talking to a real news crew.
He also appeared on a sequence of the Comedy Central show, ‘The Sarah Silverman Program', as Fred the Homeless Guy. He also appeared frequently as a doctor on the animated Adult Swim show ‘Tom Goes to the Mayor'. Galifianakis appeared in Fiona Apple's music video for the song, ‘Not About Love'.
In June 2006 Galifianakis came out with his single ‘Come Over and Get It (Up in 'Dem Guts' a funny rap/hip-hop/dance song for which Apple contributed the vocals.
Galifianakis along with Brian Posehn, Patton Oswalt, and Maria Bamford performed on a tour ‘Comedians of Comedy' in which the group performed at live rock clubs as opposed to comedy clubs. The reason for the deviation from a traditional venue was that the group wanted to try to reach a different audience.
A DVD ‘Live at the Purple Onion' which had some of Galifianakis's hilarious work was released on March 6th, 2007.
