The city of Youngstown is located in Ohio, United States. Youngtown falls in the Mahoning County and is also the county-seat of the same. The city lies on the 'Mahoning River' and according to the 2000 census, the population of the city stands at 82,026, making it the eighth most populous city in the state of Ohio.

Youngstown is situated merely 10 miles away from the state of Pennsylvania. The city was named after 'John Young', who was one of the first settlers in this town. As per the United States Census Bureau, the city covers a total area of 34.2 square miles, which is 98.98% land. Historically, Youngstown had been a major center of steel production and even today, it is a site of several steel and metalworking operations. In fact, the largest employer in this area is the General Motors' Lordstown Assembly plant.

Youngstown has a number of cultural and recreational institutes. The 'Powers Auditorium' is a major cultural center in the city. The Auditorium is the primarily music hall of the city and also the home for the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra. Other such cultural centers are the 'Ford Recital Hall' and the 'Stambaugh Auditorium'. The latter is the home of the Stambaugh Youth Concert Band. Locally produced plays are often showcased at the 'Oakland Center for the Arts'.

Another extremely popular tourist attraction is the 'Butler Institute of American Art'. The institution was established nearly ninety years ago and was one of the first museums in the country dedicated to American art. The 'McDonough Museum of Art' is another tourist spot. However, the most popular tourist spot is the 5 mile long stretch of landscaped woodland, called the Mill Creek Park.

Youngstown also has an active sporting culture. The hockey team 'Youngstown SteelHounds' and the football team 'Mahoning Valley Thunder' are both from this city. The Chevrolet Centre is a magnificent sporting center, that is a recent addition to this city. The center is a venue for many sports, such as professional hockey, arena football and other sports.
