Yeah Yeah Yeahs is a rock band from New York. They were discovered during the period when garage rock was making a come back. The band consists of singer Karen O, drummer Brian Chase and guitarist Nicolas Zinner. Karen and Chase met each other in college and met Zinner when Karen was transferred to New York University.
The band was officially formed by Zinner and Karen O in 2000. They asked Chase to join them later. The band wrote a few songs and eventually ended up opening for the Strokes and White Stripes. Their unique arty style of garage rock became an instant rage. The band released their first self titled EP on their own Shifty label. The next year, the band toured the US with Girls Against Boys. They toured Europe with John Spencer Blues Explosion and then performed on their own tour in the UK.

The band's EP was distributed in UK by Wichita Recordings and was reissued in the US by Touch and Go. Between touring and traveling the band put the final touches on their debut full length album to be released in 2002. The EP, "Machine" was released just before the release of the debut album.
