Yasiin Bey (aka) Mos Def Tickets for Sale

During the year 1996, Mos started as a solo artist and got an opportunity to work with De la soul and da bush babees. Soon after that he released his own first single," Universal magnetic" which went on to become a huge hit. This led to his deal with Rawkus records and he got associated with Talib Kweli to form a group. It was named as "Black star" and under the same name they released an album," Mos Def and Talib Kweli are Black Star" in 1998.

Mos Def also released his yet another solo album with Rawkus records, "Black on both the sides" in 19949. Mos also featured in the most influential lyricist lounge and soundbombimg series compilations by Rackus records. After their fall-out with Rackus Records, both Mos and Kweli signed with Interscope/Graffen records. Thus his second album, "The new danger" was released in 2004. Mos faced some criticisms from his fans for appearing a commercial for endorsing a sports utility vehicle. After this he released his last album, "True Magic" in December 2006 with Graffen records.

About his acting career:

Mos Def begun his acting career at the age of 14 and he featured in a Television movie, God bless the child featuring Mare Winningham. He also featured as the oldest child in a short lived T.V sitcom. Apart from that he was a part of the movie "Ghosts" featuring Micheal Jackson. His memorable acting role before his music career was that of Bill Cosby's sidekick on the short-lived detective show, The Cosby Mysteries. He was nominated for the Teen choice award and the image award after his performance as a talented rapper in, Brown sugar.

He also appeared in Comedy Central's Chapelle's show and hosted the MOBO awards in 2004 in London. Mos went on to win the Best Actor, Independent Movie at the 2005 Black Reel Awards for his effective portrayal of the skeptical Detective Sgt. Lucas in The Woodsman. For his portrayal of Vivien Thomas in HBO's film, Something the Lord Made, he was nominated for an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe, and won the Image Award. Soon after that he got a role of Ford Prefect in the 2005 movie which was an adaptation of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. In 2006, he appeared along with Talib Kweli in Dave Chappell's "Block party" and also contributed the soundtrack of the movie.

Mos Def was originally known as Dante Terrell Smith. He was born on Dec 11, 1973 in Brooklyn, New York to Abdul Rahman and Sheron. He had a younger sister by the name Ces and a younger brother by the name DCQ. When Mos was 9 years olld, he began singing and acting during the golden hip hop and rap era. Mos Def was first exposed to Islam at age of 13 by his father. He became a Muslim at the age of 19 and came to know of Muslim rappers which included Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Q-Tip of the group, A Tribe Called Quest.

He begun his musical career in the year 1994 with a group called Urban Thermo dynamics. His younger brother DCQ and sister Ces too were part of this group. They had a contract with Payday records but hardly managed to release only two singles and a debut album, Manifest destiny. This album was eventually released in the year 2004 by Illson Media.
