The city of Yakima is located in the state of Washington. Yakima falls in the 'Yakima County' and is the county seat of the same. According to the 2000 census, the population of the city stands at 71,845. However, as per the 'Washington State Office of Financial Management', the present population of the city is estimated to be around 84,300. Yakima lies in the Yakima Valley, which is quite renowned for being one of the best apple-producing areas of the world.

Yakima is bordered by the 'Yakama Indian Reservation' on its south and southeast side. As per the United States Census Bureau, the city covers a total area of 20.6 square miles, of which around 99.67% is water. The city is popularly known as the 'The Palm Springs of Washington'.
