Winger is a pop metal band, it was fronted by bassist Kip Winger. He was an ex-member of Alice Cooper's band, He quit and formed his own band in 1986. The band consists of Winger, guitarist Rob Beach, bassist Paul Taylor and drummer Rod Morgenstein. Morgenstein was an ex-member of the Dixie Dregs.
The name of the band is obviously inspired from the band's leader. Winger was a specialist as creating pop-metal tunes. It was this genre that rocketed Bon Jovi and Poison's career. Their debut self titled album was released in 1988 and sold more than a million copies, mostly on the popularity of the singles , "Seventeen" and "Headed for a Heartbreak."

The band's second album reached the music stores in 1990 and was titled, "In the Heart of the Young." The album was equally successful and also sold over a million copies. The album consisted of the hit singles, "Miles Away." But the band didn't last much longer than that. They could not adapt to the changing music scene and faded away. They released their last album, "Pull" in 1993. Winger then embarked on a solo career by the end of the 90's.
