The band was started when the trio was still in college; Keith Murray and Chris Cain went to Pomona College; Michael Tapper attended Harvey Mudd College. After formation the band began to gig around and soon was able to establish a fan base. The band is known for their exciting live shows, in which they frequently blend pacy renditions of their songs with comedy and entertaining inter-song banter.
The band released a self-made LPs ‘Bitchin!' in 2002 that was followed by the LP ‘In Action' in 2003. In 2002 itself the band came out with their self-made EP ‘Safety, Fun, and Learning (in that Order)' which was followed by another EP ‘The Wolf's Hour' in 2004. In 2005 the band made their major label debut with the LP ‘With Love and Squalor' on EMI/Virgin Records. The band's first three singles ‘Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt', ‘The Great Escape' and ‘It's a Hit' did reasonably well, and have been included on the album ‘Crap Attack'. The three videos for the singles depict bizarre situations like the band being chased by a man in a grizzly bear costume ("Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt"), having boxing matches ("It's a Hit"), and the three being apparently connected at the hip all through an entire day's activities ("The Great Escape").
In 2006, the band hit the road with acts like Arctic Monkeys, Maxïmo Park and Mystery Jets as part of the NME Shockwaves Tour, and played venues like Cardiff and Nottingham en route. In 2007, the band was nominated for NME award in the Best International Band Award category. It was declared on 1st November 2007 that drummer Michael Tapper would quit the band before their UK tour. The band has also announced that they have started working on their next album that is scheduled for release in 2008.
