Vonda was born July 7, 1963, in New York City. Her career as a pop singer gained immense popularity in the 1990s.her family relocated to California after a few years. She studied voice and piano there. At her teenage she recorded a duet with singer Dan Hill, named "Can't We Try". She toured with Jackson Browne as a backup singer. She played piano, guitar and bass with command. In 1989, she released her self-titled debut on Reprise label. Her hallmark lies in never sacrificing the bluesy soulfulness of music in favor of slick commercial values. After the release of 1992 sophomore effort "The Radical Light", she was dropped by Reprise. For years she was without a label.

 Her third album "It's Good", in 1996 was a milestone in her career. It brought her strong critical acclaim. She was signed up to play on Ally McBeal after being acclaimed by the show's creator, David Kelley. the two full soundtrack albums Vonda recorded for Ally McBeal soundtrack were mainly covers of old songs with lyrics describing the happenings in Ally's life onscreen. Vonda has released two more studio albums called "Heart and Soul: New Songs from Ally McBeal" (1999) and
Chinatown (2002) and more recently, a live album (2005).all of them are genuine super hits.
