Von Bondies
Von Bondies is an 'in die' group in the music industry. They are known for their sizzling live shows. Two ex-college roommates, Jason Stollsteimer and Marcie Bolen attended 'Guitar Wolf', a Japanese show. The performance prompted the pair to create their own band, leaving their old trades behind. Lauren Wilcox (bassist) and Don Blum (drummer) were recruited. The quartet fusion soon emerged as a fierce group of 2000 in the motor city of Detroit. It was given a nasty name the 'Babykillers' but was soon called by a nice name 'Von Bondies'. The Von Bondies were soon in possession of a small but devoted fanbase. That is why the demand for their tickets is ever skyrocketing.
Initially, they recorded the singles 'It Came From Japan' (an ode) to 'Guitar Wolf', and 'Nite Train'. Later on, in late 2001, White Stripes' Jack White along with the Dirtbombs' Jim Diamond produced the Von Bondies' debut album, 'Lack of Communication' which was recorded in only three days. The album was a great success. It did well both nationally and internationally. Millions of people admired the work and the Bondies won the recognition. The Von Bondies' European tour with the White Stripes further increased their well-earned recognition. With the ending of tour they were very much popular.
The Von Bondies were unsatisfied with the coarse sound and creation of their debut album. They finally signed up with Warner Brothers and began working. They compiled 'Raw and Rare', the band's live album It was a collection of BBC performances from 2001 and 2002 (Peel Sessions), also a few rave-ups recorded at Detroit's own Lager House. It was released in June 2003. Sadly, some of Stollsteimer's comments about the coarse sound on 'Lack of Communication' were miscommunicated by the media into something much more negative which provoked the conflict between Stollsteimer and Jack White at the Magic Stick club in Detroit in 2003.

Artist Biography - Von Bondies
|
Jack White beat Stollsteimer when he was attending a Blanche performance with his spouse and the female associates of his band. According to eyewitnesses, Stollsteimer was watching the performance when White approached him. White tried to speak to him; when Stollsteimer rejected to talk, White slapped his face. Stollsteimer was then pushed to the floor and he received seven blows to his right eye. While the crowd controlled White, Stollsteimer was hurried to the nearby hospital, where he was found to be suffering from a detached retina. White was fined and made to attend anger management sessions.
The Von Bondies received supreme publicity from the episode at the Magic Stick. Contrary to White's claim that Stollsteimer was making a mountain out of a molehill so as to receive further exposure from the media, the other members of the band stood by their statement that they never wanted any of this bad publicity. They very confidently dismissed any claims that they were using the confrontation to boost the sales of their next album. In the February of 2004, the Von Bondies released 'Pawn Shoppe Heart' through Sire Records. Jerry Harrison of the Talking Heads produced it. A few months after its release, bassist Smith left the band on good terms. Jasmine Smith (no relation to the former Smith) replaced her.
The Von Bondies are eminent in music circles. Their single 'C'Mon, C'Mon' was featured in the video games (like MVP Baseball 2004, Gretzky NHL 2005 and Burnout 3: Takedown), several television shows (like American drama 'Rescue Me' which uses the song as the theme song for the show) and in an Itunes Superbowl Pepsi advertisement. 'It Came From Japan' was also featured in an episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer although against the permission of the band.
The band is at present working on a new album, which will be released in 2006. Von Bondies have made themselves a feasible option for loyal fans.
