Vikki Carr was born Florencia Bisenta de Casillas Martinez Cardona on July 19th 1941, in El Paso, Texas. After adopting the moniker ‘Vikki Carr', she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records in 1962. ‘He's a Rebel', became her first single to do well, it peaked at # 5 in Australia and at # 115 in the United States. In 1966, she along with actor/comedian Danny Kaye toured Vietnam. In 1967, her album ‘It Must Be Him' garnered three Grammy Awards nomination. The title track of the album peaked at # 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Other two singles ‘The Lesson' and ‘With Pen in Hand' reached the US top 40. Her 10 singles climbed the U.S. pop charts and 13 albums made it to the U.S. pop album charts. The Los Angeles Times conferred the title ‘Woman of the Year' to Carr in 1970. In 1981, she got a star on the ‘Hollywood Walk of Fame'. Carr also accomplished the extraordinary deed of singing for five presidents during her career: Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George Bush, and Bill Clinton.

During the 1980s and 1990s Carr had tremendous success in the Latin music world; she took home the Grammy Awards for Best Mexican-American Recording in 1985 for the album ‘Simplemente Mujer'. In 1992, the coveted award became hers once again for Latin Pop Album ‘Cosas del Amor'. Her album ‘Recuerdo a Javier Solis' garnered another Grammy award for her in 1995. Her albums ‘Brindo a La Vida, Al Bolero, A Ti' (1993) and ‘Emociones' (1996) were nominated for the Grammy Award.
In 2001, she came out with a bilingual holiday album, ‘The Vikki Carr Christmas Album', which did quite well. She was highly appreciated for her 2002 performance of the Stephen Sondheim musical ‘Follies' that also had Hal Linden, Patty Duke and Harry Groener. In 2006, Carr made a small appearance in a straight-to-video thriller ‘Puerto Vallarta Squeeze'.

Apart from a great performer, Vikki is also a philanthropist; she gives time to many charities like the United Way, the American Lung Association, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, St. Jude's Hospital and many more.
