The 'War Memorial Stadium' is a football stadium located in Little Rock, Arkansas. The stadium was named in the honor of the soldiers and veterans of the two world wars. The stadium is primarily used for the sport of football. The stadium is the part-time home field of the 'University of Arkansas’, 'Arkansas State University' and the 'University of Central Arkansas'.
The stadium was inaugurated on September 18, 1948 in the honor of the 4,634 Arkansans who had lost their lives in the two world wars. More than twenty seven thousand football fans witnessed the event. The initial seating capacity of the Stadium was for thirty one thousand spectators. However, over the years the capacity has been expanded to accommodate nearly fifty four thousand spectators.
The stadium was one of the first arenas to get a television-quality lighting system. Moreover, an Astroturf surface was added to the stadium as early as the year 1969. The stadium has been always ranked as one of the best stadiums in the United States and in the year 1974, 'The War Memorial Stadium- press box' was voted by the 'Football Writer’s Association' as the best in the nation. The stadium has constantly undergone many renovations and has always maintained a high degree of state-of-the-art facilities. Before the year 2005 football season another new scoreboard and video screen was added to the stadium.
The stadium has also hosted legendary music groups, such as the 'Eagles', 'George Strait' and the 'Rolling Stone'. The stadium is currently celebrating its 60th anniversary and as a part of the celebrations a 25-foot patriotic sculpture is being constructed on the stadium's west side. Undoubtedly, the 'War Memorial Stadium – Arkansans' is one of the best stadiums in the entire United States. It has staged many historical sporting events and will continue to do so for years to come.
