The Valhalla Golf Club is situated in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. Designed by professional golfer Jack Nicklaus, it is a private golf club. Envisioned by Dwight Gahm and his three sons in the year 1981, the club was inaugurated in the year 1986. The golf course sits on a huge 486-acre land on Shelbyville Road, which is in the eastern part of Louisville. In the year 1992, Valhalla Golf Club was announced as the host of the 1996 PGA Championship. The PGA of America bought a 25% interest in the club, in the following year. Later, the PGA of America raised it to 50%, soon after the 1996 PGA Championship. The event again took place in Valhalla, in the year 2000. The PGA of America expressed a desire to buy the remaining interest in the club at the end of the 2000 event. Major tournaments that have taken place in the Valhalla Golf Club includes.The 1996 PGA Championship where Mark Brooks won over Kenny Perry. The 2000 PGA Championship saw Tiger Woods win the tournament over Bob May. The club also played host to the 2002 PGA Club Professional Championship and later the 2004 Senior PGA Championship. The 2008 Ryder Cup will take place at Valhalla, in Louisville, Kentucky somewhere around the month of September.
