University Arena, which is also called ‘The Pit’ by sports fanatics, is a very famous basketball arena located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It provides a seating capacity for 18,018 fans. It is the official home to the University of New Mexico Lobo basketball teams. The Arena was inaugurated in the year 1966 and is located at the crossing of University Boulevard and Avenida Cesar Chavez in southeast Albuquerque. It was ranked on the 13th spot in a list of the top 20 sports venues of the 20th century. The ranking was done in the year 1999 by a very famous sports magazine “Sports Illustrated.”

The Arena is famous for being one of the most hostile arenas in the country, especially for the visiting teams. It is so because of the dark lightings as well as the large crowd of Lobo fans that are usually seated right up to the edge of the court. As a result of this, the visiting teams are often advised to coordinate via give hand signals in order to communicate over the deafening roar.

The visiting squads face a lot of problems in terms of rivalry with the Lobo basketball program that surely enjoys a lot of home advantage at the Arena. This is the reason why most of the opponent teams, specially the Lute Olson coached Arizona Wildcats refuse to play any kind of series with the Lobos. A fact is that the Lobo's basketball team for men governs a ranking of 10th position in terms of total attendance every season since the Arena was first inaugurated in the year 1966. But I would like to comment on one thing, that sportsmen spirit should be followed everywhere.
