Troy Savings Bank, which is currently owned by First Niagara Financial Group Inc, is a bank that is located in Troy, Rensselaer County, New York, U.S.A. The Bank is very famous all over the world because of its unique feature of having a music hall inside the premises of the bank itself. The music hall is located on the second floor above the bank and is known as the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. It is famous for its acoustics, including a huge Odell concert organ.
The bank was founded in the year 1823. But now it is situated at Rensselaer Country (its current location, the bank moved here in the year 1823). Earlier, the hall has hosted a variety of performances from well-known artists like Lillian Nordica, Henri Vieuxtemps, Ignace Jan Paderewski, Albert Spaulding, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Myra Hess and Jose Iturbi. Before that, well known artists like Vladimir Horowitz, Yehudi Menuhin and Artur Rubenstein have also given performances in the hall. This was around the era of 1930s and 1940s, when these artists were really in a lot of demand. This Hall was a usual stop for a musician on a tour around America.
Contrary to modern ways, there was a very strict tradition. There was this tradition that just before the commencement of the performances, the Fire Marshal would appear on stage and announce loudly: "There is absolutely no smoking in the Hall. If you have to smoke, you can hit the streets at half time." Now you don't have to worry as this tradition is not followed now days. So go and grab your tickets and witness the amazing performances by some of the very talented performers of this age!!!
