Ravinia Pavilion is part of the Ravinia Park, which is a privately owned entertainment park holding several facilities used for organizing various types of events starting from theatre plays and concerts to symphony performances. The entire complex is made to provide excellent outlay where families can organize picnics and gatherings, and in the same time enjoy the excellent music which can be heard throughout the park, partly because of the open air performance facilities and partly because of the excellent sound systems covering the entire area.

The Pavilion, together with the Martin Theatre and the Gordon Hall are the three main facilities that host the world famous Ravinia Festival, consisted of series of events that feature high quality music performances which take place every year during the summer. As a closed music/concert/theater venue the Pavilion today provides accommodation for 3,200 people, and was used to host the most notable events held in the Park in its 104 years of existence, that also makes this the festival one with the longest tradition in North America, along with being the traditional home of the Symphony Orchestra of Chicago over the summer months, with their music cooperation dating from 1936. Some of the best performances on which the park built its reputation were held in the Pavilion, and the overall attendance figures for one year exceed 500,000.
