The Qwest Field is located at 800 Occidental Avenue S. in Seattle, Washington, USA. The stadium is used for hosting football and soccer games. It was inaugurated in the year 2002, although the construction work began in April 2000. A total of $360 million were spent in its construction. A well-known architect, Ellerbe Becket designed the stadium. It is presently owned by Washington State Public Stadium Authority and is operated by First & Goal Inc. The stadium has a current seating capacity for 67,000 spectators. It can be expanded up to 72,000 for special events. Earlier it was known as the Seahawks Stadium. It got its present name when Qwest purchased its naming rights on 2nd June, 2004. At present it is the home field of the NFL's Seattle Seahawks, the men's and women's Seattle Sounders soccer teams but in the year 2009, it will serve as the home to the Major League Soccer's Seattle Sounders FC. Within the Field, there is a Seahawks tribute to high school football of the State of Washington. It displays replica football helmets from every high school football team in the State. The Qwest Field is one of the very few professional sports stadiums which has not signed up a contract with Coca-cola or Pepsi. The official drink served at the Filed is Jones Soda.
Since the opening of the arena, every year it has played host to a Washington State Cougars "home game," including the 2003 "Battle of the Palouse" against the Idaho Vandals. In all these games the Cougars have come up with flying colors, except in the year 2004, when it lost to Colorado. Every year at this Field, the NCAA Division II football teams of Western Washington Vikings and Central Washington Wildcats compete with each other in an intense rivalry game known as, "The Battle in Seattle."
