Quicken Loans Arena (formerly Gund Arena) The Quicken Loans Arena is located at 1 Center Court in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, USA. It is also commonly referred to as “The Q.” It was inaugurated in the year 1994, though the construction work began on 27th April, 1992. A total of $100 million were spent in its construction. A well-known architect, Ellerbe Becket, designed the structure of the building. It is currently owned and operated by Gateway Economic Development Corporation. The arena has a seating capacity for 20,562 spectators. It is also equipped with 92 luxury suites and 2,000 club seats. Until the year 2005, it was known as the Gund Arena. At present the Arena serves as a home field to the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA, the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL, and the Cleveland Gladiators of the AFL. Prior to this, it was the home of the now-defunct Cleveland Lumberjacks of the IHL and the Cleveland Barons of the AHL, and the Cleveland Rockers of the WNBA. On the opening of the arena on 17th October, 1994, an awe-inspiring concert was performed by Billy Joel, a well-known American singer, pianist and song-writer. A few weeks later, the Cavaliers played their first game in the arena.

The arena replaced the Coliseum at Richfield, which was located south of Cleveland near Akron. In the year 2005, Dan Gilbert, Cavaliers majority owner and the owner of Quicken Loans introduced a lot of renovations in the arena, installing new seats, state of the art scoreboards, video systems, sound systems, arena graphics, signage, security, locker rooms and suite upgrades. Since the year 2000, “The Q” has also served as the home to Mid-American Conference's men's and women's basketball tournaments. The arena has hosted the WWF SummerSlam 1996, the year 2000 US Figure Skating Championships, the American version of WWF No Mercy 1999, WWF Invasion 2001 and Survivor Series 2004. Several episodes of Monday Night Raw, Friday Night SmackDown! and Extreme Championship Wrestling were also held in the arena.
