The Prudential Theater is located 165 Mulberry Street in Downtown Newark, New Jersey. It is a multi-purpose indoor arena used for indoor soccer, hockey, basketball and various concerts. It was inaugurated on 25th October, 2007 though the construction work began in the year 2005. it is currently owned by City of Newark, New Jersey Devils and operated by Anschutz Entertainment Group. For indoor soccer, the center has a seating capacity for 17,500 spectators; for hockey, the seating capacity is 17,625; for basketball, it can seat up to 18,500 peopl and for concerts it can accommodate 19,500 spectators. The arena was designed by HOK Sport and tbe exterior was designed by Morris Adjmi Architects.
At present, the Center serves as a home filed to the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League, Major Indoor Soccer League's New Jersey Ironmen and the Seton Hall Pirates Men's Basketball team. It is the first new arena built in New Jersey metropolitan area in more than 25 years. Transportation to the arena is also not a problem. It is easily accessibly via NJ Transit, PATH, Newark Light Rail, and Amtrak through Newark's Penn Station. Prudential Financial acquired its naming rights in January, 2000. It is also popularly known as "The Rock" after Prudential's corporate logo. On the opening of the arena, a series of 10 concerts were performed by New Jersey rock group, Bon Jovi, featuring a star-studded lineup of opening acts, including Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson, Daughtry, The All-American Rejects and New Jersey's own My Chemical Romance.
