The Palace of Auburn Hills is an indoor arena in Auburn Hills, Michigan and often referred to as The Palace. It was opened in 1988, and it is a home of the Detroit Pistons of NBA, the Detroit Vipers of the IHL, Detroit Fury of the AFL and Detroit Safari of the CISL.
The first performer at the Palace was Sting, followed by Pink Floyd, Crosby, Stills and Nash. The arena was a host of the WCW World War 3 Pay Per View, the WWF’s SummerSlam, and Madonnas Drowned World Tour, in 2001. Also the arena is the site of an a asassination attempt on April 1st, 1995, on Jimmy Page, Led Zeppelin guitarist while he was on tour. The arena is owned by William Davidson, operated by Palace Sports and Entertainment and designed by Rossetti architects with $70 million construction costs.
It is the largest arena in the NBA, with capacity of 22,076 for basketball, 20,804 for ice hockey and arena football and 24,276 for concerts. It was built with 180 luxury suites, and its design has been used as the basis for many professional sport arenas, considered to be the first of the modern style NBA arenas. Also the location of the arena have made it very popular for large concerts.
