The Oriole Park at Camden Yards is a ballpark and is situated in Baltimore, Maryland. It was constructed in the year 1992 to replace the old Memorial Stadium. It is the official home to the Baltimore Orioles of Major League Baseball and was the first of its kind to come under the category of "retro" major league ballparks that was constructed during the 1990s and early 2000s. It is located in the southwest corner of downtown Baltimore that is very near to the Inner Harbor. If history is kept in mind, then it is one of several arenas that have carried the "Oriole Park" name for different Baltimore franchises for so many years. The park is otherwise known as "Camden Yards."

The construction work began in the year 1989 on an all-new baseball-only ballpark for the Baltimore Orioles. It took almost 33 months to finish the construction task and the park finally opened on April 6, 1992. It was the time when the Orioles hosted the Cleveland Indians. After so many discussions as to what should be the official name of the ballpark, former Orioles owner Eli Jacobs was in the favor to name it “Oriole Park” while then-Maryland Governor William Donald Schaefer wanted to name it as “Camden Yards” — finally a decision was taken to use both the names. The immense success of this newly developed retro-style started an altogether new trend in other cities to build more traditional, people-friendly ballparks in downtown locations as well. Before using the current design for the park, the predominant design style for all the ballparks was symmetrical dual-purpose "concrete doughnuts" situated in the suburbs. But after being repetitively forced by the architectural consultant Janet Marie Smith, the Orioles turned the previous design down and went for a new retro-style park.
