The Nationwide Arena is a multi purpose venue located in Columbus, Ohio. It was inaugurated in the year 2000 and is the official home to the Columbus Blue Jackets, a well-known franchise in the NHL, who were joined by the Columbus Destroyers of the Arena Football League for the 2004 session. Earlier it was the official home to the Columbus Landsharks of the National Lacrosse League from the years 2001 till 2003. Later in the year 2006 the venue started playing host to the Ohio Junior Blue Jackets, a Tier 1 junior ice hockey team that is a part of the world famous United States Hockey League.
The venue forms one of the three facilities in Columbus that are famous for hosting events as part of the annual “Arnold Classic,” which is a sports and fitness event hosted by the famous bodybuilder and current California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. The arena offers a seating capacity of 18,136 for hockey fans, 17,171 for football games, 19,500 for basketball fanatics and up to 20,000 for all kinds of shows and concerts. A very interesting story is linked with the venue. It is believed that the Nationwide Arena is haunted. Some people claim that it is haunted because of the fact that it was built at the site of the Ohio Penitentiary. Some people have a view that the electric chair of the prison was placed where the center ice is today but the fact is that the arena is built over the parking lot of the prison and not at the actual prison site. The parking lot of the current Nationwide Arena is built where the jail formerly stood. Some fans blame supernatural beings that are haunting the place to be the sole cause for a number of unsuccessful seasons since the team's inception, as well as the death of Brittanie Cecil.
