Nationals Park The Nationals Park is the official home to the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball. It is the first stadium in the United States that comes under the category of a LEED-certified green stadium. The facility was inaugurated for the baseball season-opening game against the Atlanta Braves in the year 2008 as it was previously involved in hosting collegiate baseball games only. The stadium is situated along the Anacostia River in the Navy Yard, which is located on the side of the Southeast neighborhood of Washington, D.C. It replaced the RFK Stadium as the Nationals' official ballpark. Nationals Park was designed by the well-known firm of HOK Sport and Devrouax and Planners and offers a huge seating capacity for 41,888 fans. A cost of $611 million was involved in building the stadium. The name of the ballpark was similar to the old Washington Senators ballpark, National Park but the latter was renamed as the Griffith Stadium when it was rebuilt

The Nationals Park is easily accessible from I-395 via the Southwest Freeway and from I-295 via the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge. A renovation project was implemented for the Douglass Memorial Bridge so that the South Capitol Street could continue to be at the ground level along with the stadium. It was expected from Deutsche Bank that it would solve the problem of providing finance for the stadium. But the deal that was concerned with the financing prospects of the stadium, stalled further because of the concrete and complex negotiations among the city government, MLB as the owner of the team and Deutsche bank. The negotiations were finally resolved in the year 2006 and gave way to the much-awaited construction of the stadium.
