Mullins Center Information and Schedule
The Mullins Center is a nearly 9,500-seat arena in Amherst, MA that services the campus of the University of Massachusetts. Tickets to the Mullins Center are sports tickets to enjoy the UMass Minutemen men’s basketball and hockey teams and the Minuteswomen, the women’s basketball team. In addition, the center is an excellent venue to enjoy a concert or a traveling Broadway show (then the capacity expands to 10,500).
The venue is not an exceedingly old building. The Mullins Center opened in 1993, taking a year and a half to complete construction. This project began because of the very vocal William D. Mullins. The state representative fought for the multipurpose complex in the 1980s. He passed away in the middle of the decade but his fighting spirit is the reason ground was broken in 1991. The venue honors him by taking his name.
Over the two decades the building has stood, the Mullins Center has been the home of the UMass hockey team that went from club level to Division 1A. It has been the home of men’s basketball team that made it as far as the Final Four (back when they had Marcus Camby on the roster). It has been the home of multiple Minutewomen teams that have gone on to play in the NCAA Tournament. It has rocked out for groups like Phish, performers like Elton John, and country singers like Carrie Underwood. The Mullins Center looks forward to as many highlight, if not more over the course of the next two decades.
