The Bank of America Theater is located at 18, West Monroe Street in the Chicago Loop area downtown. It was earlier known as the LaSalle Bank Theater. It is presently owned by the Nederlender Organization, which is one of the largest and the most experienced operators of live theater and music in the United States. The Theater was inaugurated in the year 1906. It was temporarily closed in the year 1932 during the Great Depression. The renowned architects, Edmund R. Krause and the Rapp Brothers (George and Cornelius) designed this stadium. After the Iroquois Theater had caught fire, it was the first theater built after that unfortunate incident. So extra attention was paid to its fire safety provisions. In order to attract a more elegant audience, decadent colors and textures were used in its construction. If some sources are to be believed, then this theater was once the tallest building of Chicago. Recently certain renovations were made in the theater. It was repainted and some elevators were also installed.
The theater has been home to 12-15 vaudeville acts running from 1:30 pm to 10:30 pm, six days a week. In the 1920s, the theater became a part of the Orpheum Circuit. At that time many famous stars performed in the theater including Eddie Foy, Harry Houdini, Lily Langtry and Mabel McKinley. The theater has also served as home to many pre-Broadway tours and World premieres. For instance, John Lithgow starred in Sweet Smell of Success in the year 2001. In June 2002, it hosted the premiere of Movin' Out which was based on the songs of Billy Joel. Jersey Boys also began its long run at this theater in October 2007. The venue also hosted the premiere of the Goodbye Girl in the year 1993 prior to its Broadway run. To enjoy the next performance at the Bank of America Theater, go and grab its tickets as soon as possible.
