KeyArena is a coliseum center, or multi – purpose center, located in Seattle, WA. It is a destination location for a wide array of different entertainment venues for performers coming from all over the world as well as patrons for afar. It has long since been known as the premier place to be for all things that might be going on in the area. People know that if there is something going on in the city, to check the calendar for the KeyArena.
It was previously called the Washington State Pavilion, but before that it was known as the Washington State Coliseum and then before that the Seattle Center Coliseum. Despite having many different names, the central purpose and theme of the setting has not changed. The focus has always been to host the top talent in the area and to bring home the best entertainment opportunities around.
The constant remains that it has always been conveniently located north of the downtown area of Seattle. It is essentially a seventy – four acre theater compound that is fervently known to its locals simply as the Seattle Center. It is most likely remembered as being the location of the 1962 World's Fair. And up until present date it is still being used as the place to be when visiting the great city of Seattle for music recitals, ice shows, festivals, and sporting events.
Capacity to Hold
The KeyArena has the impressive capacity of being able to hold upwards of seventeen thousand people at one time for any given event, such as a basketball game. When the venue is booked for an ice hockey game or for an ice show, the center can hold upwards of sixteen thousand patrons at one time. When there is a center stage concert, there are usually just under eighteen thousand customers. The world renowned risers can hold over seven thousand people on the highest level. The lower level holds around just under seven thousand seats. The luxury suites accommodate just over eleven hundred people, which is optimal for visitors and tourists all the same.
More recently, the arena has been named as the host for the Seattle Redhawks which is the Seattle University men's basketball team. They have played there as long as from 1963 through 1980. They rejoined the center in 1980 and have played there until the present time. It also hosts the Seattle Storm which is the Women’s National Basketball team. There is a long steeped history in the highest level of athletics being played within such a fine and well - built arena.
The KeyArena is host to lesser known teams such as the Rat City Rollergirls which are the Women's Flat Track Derby team. That has been happening since 2009. The KeyArena is the perpetual home of the Pac - 12 Conference's women's basketball tournament. It is important to know that it was the temporary home to the Seattle SuperSonics, the Seattle Totems and also the World Hockey Leagues very own Seattle Thunderbirds.
The KeyArena was the original publicly funded arena that was wholly maintained by the earned income from the building itself. The KeyArena was initially opened back in 1962. The architect behind the impressive plans for its construction was Paul Thiry. Later on, it was rebuilt around 1995 where major improvements were made in order to bring it up to modern day standards. Seattle apparently spent around seventy - five million dollars for the overhaul. The SuperSonics spent around twenty – one million on the project as well. The renovation allowed for an additional three thousand seats to be added. The renovation took a long period of time, but the loyal patrons were more than willing to wait for its grand reopening to occur.
Just a few of the performing artists include; U2, Depeche Mode, Dianna Ross, The X – Factor auditions, Macklemore, Ariana Grande, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Justin Bieber, Chris Stapleton, Shawn Mendes, The Trans – Siberian Orchestra, Stevie Nicks, and Ryan Lewis and so many more. This is simply the shortest of lists when it comes to the multitude of artists that have sand and played on the grand stage. It has hosted the vest best performers as the headliners for the night. There have been so many more than could be mentioned here. Other athletes have been the WWE wrestlers, as well as several professional bull riding competitive events.
The KeyArena is dedicated to producing and upholding a safe and hospitable environment for its patrons. It is important to know that safety and security are of the utmost importance. Uniformed security guards patrol the area regularly in order to provide for a secure environment. There are also first aid supplies readily available when needed.
The honorable sponsors of the activity center include vendors such as; Coca Cola, Alaska Airlines, T – Mobile, Worldmark by Windham, and Microsoft. And with so many great eateries nearby there is no need to leave the area. They include; Bluefood BBQ, Blue Water Taco Grill & Cantina, The Bubble Tea Shop, Ceres Roasting, The Confectional, Cool Guys Fry Bar, KABAB, MOD Pizza, Plum Pantry, and Premier Meat Pies. The activity center is proud to boast of their loyal sponsors as they contribute to overall goal as well. Without them, everything would not go as well as it often does.
