An Indoor Arena the HP Pavilion is located at 525, West Santa Clara Street in San Jose, California. The arena was earlier known as the San Jose Arena from the year 1993 to the year 2001 and it was also known as the Compaq Center at San Jose from the year 2001 to the year 2002. During the mid-1980s, a group of people wished to have an indoor arena in the city. The group was known as FAN (Fund Arena Now). The group used to push the city officials in order to get the same constructed. They also planned to sell the same to groups like NHL and NBA franchises. Thereafter, the group encountered with then-San Jose mayor Tom McEnery. This man helped them to make their dreams come true. He introduced a measure to allocate the taxes in the building of the arena. Thereafter, the construction of the same was started in the year 1991 and the arena finally got constructed in the year 1992.
The designed arena was meant for the use of the community. So it was redesigned to make the same according to the standards of NHL. However, it took one year to redesign the arena and it opened in the year 1993. The arena has housed many sports teams including: The San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, The San Jose Sabercats of the Arena Football League and The San Jose Stealth of the National Lacrosse League. Moreover the SAP Open men's tennis tournament is also conducted here. In fact, HP Pavilion hosts more than 190 events annually, which also includes many non-sporting events. The same arena has already hosted concerts by major acts such as Alicia Keys, Celine Dion, Gloria Estefan, Coldplay, Depeche Mode, Paul McCartney, Bon Jovi, U2, Ashley Tisdale, Jonas Brothers, The Cheetah Girls and the list is indeed long.
