The well-known West End Theater, Cambridge Theater is located at Earlham Street in London. The construction of the theater was started in the year 1929 and it was inaugurated on September 4, 1930. Really Useful Theaters owns this theater. Wimperis, Simpson and Guthrie designed the original structure but it has been rejuvenated several times in the later period. Its interior was partly designed by an interior designer called Serge Chermayeff. It is built of steel and concrete with excellent gold and silver decor. It has a seating capacity for 1,231 patrons. Some of the notable productions of the Cambridge Theater include Joan Sims in 'Breath of Spring' by Peter Coke (1958), Tommy Steele in 'Half a Sixpence' (1963), Bruce Forsyth in 'Little Me' (1964). The rock 'n' roll musical 'Return to the Forbidden Planet' was opened in September 1989 and that continued till the year 1993. This was based on Shakespeare's 'The Tempest.' It won the Olivier Award for best musical in the years 1989 and 1990.

Chicago, the musical by Kander and Ebb was opened in the Cambridge Theater on November 18, 1997. Its original Broadway production of the musical was opened in the year 1975 that ran for 936 performances. This is the longest running revival in the West End theater history. Chicago is the winner of six 1997 Tony Awards for Best Musical Revival. Chicago is now in its 10th year in London. Chicago is a tale of Roxie Hart, a chorus girl who kills her lover, Harry Kalstedt as a career move; Billy Flynn, a sharp lawyer who turns Roxie into a celebrity and Velma Kelly based on Gaertner, who is a cabaret singer with an ear for headlines and an eye for talent.
