The Cadillac Palace theater was build in the year 1926 at a huge cost of 12 million dollars, which was a part of a very famous venture known as the “Eitel Block Project.” Originally the name of the theater was the “New Palace Theater” but it got changed to the Bismarck Theater in the year 1984. It took the form of a rock venue. In the year 1999 the automobile company Cadillac purchased the naming rights for the venue and renovated it completely by giving it a new name, The Cadillac Palace Theater. A very interesting story is linked with the theater. During the Second World War, the government of the United States went around to have a check on all the theaters because they wanted to seize all the brass. Brass was very important as it was used in making ammunition, shells etc.
So the owners of the theater decided to paint the whole theater with white color, so that the government could be easily tricked into thinking that the theater had no brass. So in this way, the entire brass of the theater was saved until the latest renovation, where all the white paint was scraped off from the brass. The brass ornaments are now rediscovered and reestablished to their original state. The theater currently offers a huge seating capacity for around 2,344 people. The theater is now governed and functioned by “Broadway In Chicago,” which has given the chance to so many Broadway hits to tour Chicago. It has given rise to great economic growth within the city of Chicago. The theater is situated at 151, West Randolph Street in the Chicago Loop area downtown. The Cadillac Theater became very famous for operating lots of pre-Broadway tours and world premieres with the grand opening of Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida. This was just the beginning!
