The Benedum Center for the Performing Arts is a theater venue located in the cultural district of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. It was previously also known as the Stanley Theater. It was inaugurated on 27th February 1928. The present seating capacity of the Center constitutes of 2,885 spectators. A total of $43 million was spent on the restoration of the theater. The restoration was completed in the year 1987 and the venue was then re-opened as the Benedum Center. Billboard, a weekly American magazine devoted to the music industry ranked the Center as the "Number One Auditorium in the U.S." "The former Stanley Theater, opened in 1928 and designed by the firm of Hoffman & Henon, was restored and renovated as the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts in the late 1980s. In converting the theater into a full performing arts center, a new stage house and supporting building at the rear of the theater was erected. The interior of the theater was maintained and restored to its original beauty."
At present, the Benedum Center serves as the home of the Pittsburgh Opera, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera. The Center has a lot of notable performances to its credit.
