The “Arthur Ashe Stadium” was inaugurated in the year 1997. It is located within Flushing Meadows Park in Flushing, Queens, New York at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. A total of $254 million was spent in the construction of the stadium. The seating capacity of the stadium consists of 22,547 seats. The stadium is thus named in the honor of a renowned African American tennis player, Arthur Ashe. In the year 1968, he won the inaugural U.S. Open in which professionals could compete.

The Arthur Ashe Stadium is the largest outdoor tennis venue in the world. It is equipped with 90 luxury suites and the fans coming from far and wide can enjoy various scrumptious meals in its five restaurants. It also features a two-level players' lounge. It serves as the main tennis stadium of the US Open Tournament, which is the last of the four Grand Slam tournaments held each year. Arthur Ashe Kids Day, an annual children's tennis event that takes place in the end of August is also conducted in this stadium. As soon as it opened, it replaced the Louis Armstrong Stadium as the main stadium.

Like the other 32 courts in the facility, the stadium features a Deco Turf cushioned acrylic surface. The Arthur Ashe stadium is located close to the current home of the New York Mets, Shea Stadium and their future home, Citi Field. One can reach all these three stadiums by the New York City Subway's 7 Train. All these stadiums share the Willets Point–Shea Stadium/Citi Field stop. In addition to tennis, the stadium now also hosts basketball games. On July 19th, 2008 it hosted the first ever regular season professional basketball game (for both men and women) to be played outdoors when the WNBA Indiana Fever beat the host New York Liberty with a score of 71-55.
