The Ambassador Theater is located at 219, West 49th Street in midtown-Manhattan in New York City, USA. It is a legitimate Broadway theater and was inaugurated on 11th February 1921. The seating capacity of the theater varies from 1,108 to 1,115 spectators. The Shuberts are the owners of the Ambassador Theater. The Shubert brothers Sam S. Shubert, Lee Shubert and Jacob J. Shubert founded The Shubert Organization in the late 19th century in upstate New York. The company aims at producing a large number of shows and has by now acquired many theaters.

A well-known architect and designer of the early part of the twentieth century, Herbert J. Krapp has designed the theater. He became the primary architect of the Shubert brothers between the years 1912 and 1916. He had the ability to use a building space to its fullest potential. In designing the Ambassador Theater, he has indeed made use of this ability. The structure of the theater is designed a bit unusually. It has been diagonally constructed on the site to fit the maximum number of seats possible. The building today stands as a distinguished landmark of New York City.

The Theater opened with the musical “The Rose Girl”. In the year 1935, the Shubert brothers sold this property. It was then used as a movie theater and television studio for NBC and the DuMont Television Network for two decades. However the Shuberts re-assumed its ownership in the year 1956 and since then it has been strictly confined to legitimate uses.
