The Air Canada Center is a multi-purpose arena used for sports (basket ball and hockey), various concerts and theater shows. It is located at 40, Bay Street in downtown Toronto, Ontario. It was inaugurated on 12th March 1997. The arena is also commonly referred to as “the ACC” or “the Hanger.” The latter half is named after its sponsorship by Canada's largest airline, Air Canada. Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment owns the arena.
The Air Canada Center is 665,000 square feet (62,000 m²) in size. Union Station and the underground pedestrian PATH system connected to this arena facilitate the transportation for the people coming to attend various events. Parking is also not a problem as the area is equipped with 13,000 parking spaces within immediate walking distance. At present the Center serves as the home of the Toronto Raptors of the National Basketball Association, the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Rock of the National Lacrosse League. During the brief existence of the Toronto Phantoms of the Arena Football League, it was the home ground to them also.
There are a lot of restaurants in and out of the main arena bowl view. It is the only arena in North America to house three of its own award winning restaurants- The Platinum Club, Air Canada Club and Hot Stove Club. The fans coming from far and wide can enjoy the diversity of food and beverages offered by these restaurants. Along with enjoying the events, you also get a taste of Toronto's multicultural flavor. The other popular spots to hang out before and during the various events include two in-house bars, the Ice Box and Rickard's Brewhouse.
The Air Canada Center has also been honored with more than 25 industry awards. To name a few- Canadian Major Facility of the Year (multiple times), the U.S. based Facilities & Event Management Magazine's Prime Site Award, the Wine Spectator, VQA Restaurant and the International (Diamond Wine Award) Awards of Excellence, and Tourism Toronto's Jeff Adams Access Award of Excellence for the facilities accessibility.
