Academy of Music is an opera house located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is the oldest and most busiest hall in United States. The academy was built in the 19th century in 1857. The architect of the building was the company of Napoleon LeBrun and Gustavus Runge. They created one fabulous renaissance building. The big reconstruction project called “Project for the Twenty-First Century” started in 1994. It lasted eight years and finally ended in 2002.

With that renovation the legendary opera house gained its new lock. On December 29, 1962 United States government officially recognized this building as a National Historic Landmark. The total capacity of the main hall of the academy is 2,897 seats, divided in eight sectors, shaped in “U” form in front of the stage. The ballroom has capacity of 350 guests. Seats in the balcony and in the orchestra are ones with the best view.

The smoking is not allowed in the opera house. It is said that Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays are the best days to visit the academy. The Academy of Music was a home to the Philadelphia Orchestra until 2001. Numerous presidents have visited the Academy of Music since its opening. On the stage of the Academy were established performers like Luciano Pavarotti, Pyotor Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Artur Rubinstein and Maria Callas. The owner of the academy is Philadelphia Orchestra Association. Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts is the organization who manages the Academy of Music.
