The town of Vail is located in the state of Colorado. Vail falls in the Eagle County and is a Home Rule Municipality. As per the Census Bureau Estimates in the year 2005, the population of the city stands at 4,589. The town is a popular tourist location, particularly because of the 'Vail Ski Resort'.

Vail was incorporated in the year 1966, four years after the Vail Ski Resort was opened. As per the United States Census Bureau, the town covers a total area of 4.5 sq miles, which is 100% land. The picturesque 'Gore Creek' flows from east to west through the center of this town. Vail is located right at the base of the Vail Ski Resort and is renowned for skiing-related and other winter sport activities.

The town is surrounded by the 'White River National Forest'. The Vail Mountain is also located here and the famous Mount of the Holy Cross is visible from the top of this mountain. The economy of the town particularly thrives on the tourism industry. Although most of the tourism industry is based on seasonal winter activities, such as skiing and snowboarding, the town is also a popular summer destination. Summer activities, such as guided hikes, mountain biking, horseback riding, carriage rides and fishing, are particularly popular with the tourists. There are other tourist spots as well, such as the 'Betty Ford Alpine Gardens' and the 'Colorado Ski Museum'.

Over the years, the town has also become a major cultural center. Numerous art and music venues are hosted in the town all through the year. Some of them are : the annual world-class film festival 'Vail Film Festival' and the music festival 'Bravo!', that features the famous groups 'New York Philharmonic', 'The Philadelphia Orchestra' and the 'Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra'.
