Background- There only a few musicians in this world who could really draw you towards them with their music. That is what Tracy Grammer can do with her expert musical accompaniment on guitar, mandolin, violin and fiddle as well as her singing voice. She is a famous folk singer from America, who is more popular for her collaboration with Dave Carter. Till date she has recorded three album with Carter. In one album she did instrumental work, in the next one backing up with vocals and then in the third album, together they did the vocals.

Tracy Grammer was born in Homestead, Florida, but she was raised in Southern California. She was interested in music from childhood onwards and so her parents put her, early to musical studies. She finished her graduation in English from the University of California at Berkeley. She met Carter, while he was performing in Portland. The two clicked together and they started working together. In the year,1998, both of them recorded "When I Go". The song became a huge hit and it also earned them the Kerrville New Folk Award. They started playing in the contemporary folk circuit. They were also awarded the Wildflower Performing Songwriter and Napa Valley Emerging Songwriter Awards. In the year 1999, they were signed up with Signature Sounds. Carter and Grammer started recording Tanglewood Tree in a professional studio with other session players. They released Tanglewood Tree in the year 2000 . The album was a huge hit and was critically acclaimed. In the year 2001, they released the next album "Drum Hat Buddha". Tragedy struck when Carter died of massive heart attack. Carter was heart-broken, but she didn't stopped there. In memory of Carter, she started performing all the songs composed by him. She made the decision that she would play in the date, that were scheduled solo. She then performed solo at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. She started touring as a solo artist. She also released two solo albums- the first one is an EP which contains her original composition, "The Verdant Mile" and the title track is an eulogy for Carter. The second album "Flower of Avalon" contains ten tracks out of which nine of them were written by Cater before his death and the other one is a traditional folk song. The song has been arranged by William Jolliff and was co-produced by Grammer and John Jennings. The album has some other artists also, including Mary Chapin Carpenter, who did the backing vocals, and Jim Henry, who is the touring partner of of Grammer as well as the labelmate of Signature Sounds.

In the year 2005, Tracy Grammer Music, the company of Grammer made special arrangements with Elise Fischer, David's sister and copyright owner, to look after the catalog of Dave Carter, thus providing her with an effective control over the duo's music.
