Tracey Thorn is a music veteran, performing since 1982 as a singer in the Marine Girls, Everything But the Girl, and, for the last six years, as a solo artist. The group featured Tracey Thorn as the lead singer and guitarist (though rarely) and Watt as the guitarist, keyboardist, and backup singer. For 20 years this duo played shows around the world and released 12 studio albums, becoming especially popular in the UK.
The duo was very close, eventually marrying, but they also seemed destined to work in different settings. Watt became a DJ and dance music producer and Thorn began a solo career, preferring to perform on stage and in front of a microphone.
