Toby Keith Covel was born in Clinton, Oklahoma in 1961. He spent most of his childhood on his family's farm nearby to Oklahoma City. When he was 8 years old, Toby discovered his love for the guitar. Toby's grandmother owned a small dinner club where she had various musicians play to entertain the patrons. Toby Keith's love for country music spawned at a very young age as he idolized singers such as Bob Willis and Merle Haggard. The first band that Toby Keith became a part of was called The Easy Money Band. At one time, Keith was really into football and he started playing for a farm team in the now defunct USFL. After his dream of playing professional football failed, Toby decided to concentrate on having a music career. He would go across the country touring over and over. Toby would continuously record and rerecord demos and constantly mail them out to various people. Finally one day, a producer by the name of Harol Shedd discovered Toby Keith and got him a deal with Mercury Records.

Toby Keith was finally able to release his first album, Toby Keith, in 1993. He had a number one hit with Should've Been a Cowboy which is also now the team song for the Dallas Cowboys. Other singles from the album were Wish I Didn't Know, He Ain't Worth Missing, and A Little Less Talk and a Lot More Action. This album went double platinum.
It would be a little over a year before Toby would release his next album, Boomtown. Who's That Man was his only hit and it went to number one. Unfortunately this album never made it to platinum status. Shortly thereafter, Toby would release a Christmas album called Christmas to Christmas.
