Welcome to the Hundred Acre Wood. There are not many out there who are not in love with Winnie the Pooh. At least by the ticket sales of the show, one has the impression that everybody loves Winnie. This show is inspired by the stories of A.A. Milne as well as Disney's animated Winnie the Pooh films. This is an interacive show where the audience is often invited to sing along on the stage or even to perform simple exercises in tune to the music. The costumes are faithfully designed by Gregg Barnes, who brings the high expectations to fruition. It is not easy to stand up to the standards st by characters as Winnie. The characters in the play are covered head to tail in the costumes to mimic the well-known appearances of the characters.

The only live vocal performance at the show is of Tracie Franklin. She narrates the tale and sings a couple of the songs. She is quite charismatic and sounds good too. Her solo, "Your Heart Will Lead You Home," really stands out. She's assisted by a trio of clowns, who are known only as Hunny Helpers. Its a simple plot. The occasion is Winnie the Pooh's birthday. All of his friends -- Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, Rabbit, Owl, Kanga, and Roo -- plan to throw him a surprise party. They need to keep Pooh far away from the planning, but it is more difficult than it initially seems to be. After Tigger's continual bouncing disrupts Rabbit's cake baking, the frustrated Rabbit says a few choice words that manage to send Tigger away. This prompts Pooh and the cute Piglet to go in search of him.
The director is B T McNicholl. The staging includes some fun flying effects, as when Pooh and Piglet are launched into mid air with the help of balloons. Then there is a trampoline on a tree stump which provides Tigger with a nice springboard to ais in his bouncing. Annie Louizos is the set and production designer. She has done a fantastic job with video projections and technological glitz. Patrick Dierson's dazzling lighting greatly contributes to the look of the show. Choreographer Christopher Gattelli is best known for Altar Boyz, Bat Boy, and Silence.
