The God Committee is a new play by Mark St. Germain. The play is a life and death suspense drama. It is set in the board room of the St. Patrick's Hospital transplant selection committee. The play has been directed by Kevin Moriarty. The seven character cast includes Larry Keith, Maha Chehlaoui, Peter Jay Fernandez, Tony nominee Michael Mulheren, Amy van Nostrand, Ron Orbach and Brenda Thomas. The set is designed by Beowulf Borritt, the lighting designer is Tyler Micoleau, and costume designer is David Murin.
Mark St. Germain says, "I became interested in transplants when a friend's father found himself in need of one," says St. Germain. He adds, "With the desperate shortage of organs, I wondered how the selection process worked and how difficult these decisions must be. The more I learned, the more I realized that every doctor selection meeting was a drama of its own where final decisions could not possibly be based entirely on science, facts and figures."
Mark began research on the topic by reading articles, talking to people on the transplant committee at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and of course his personal observations of the entire process.
