The other Shrek characters like Lord Farquaad, The Dragon, and Pinocchio will accompany the others on stage. Shrek has become such a phenomenon that there is already a Shrek the 4th scheduled to come out in 2010 and Shrek 5 in 2013.
What so many love about Shrek is that it appeals to both adults and children with its simple fairy tale plot, which includes princes and princesses and good against evil. Shrek is also filled with adult jokes to keep the parents interested. Shrek is a big ogre who loves his peaceful swamp existence. All is going along fine until Shrek rescues a donkey from the king's soldiers. From this point on nothing is ever the same, especially the quiet in Shreks life. Lord Faquaad is intent on creating the perfect kingdom and in order to do that he rids the kingdom of all the fairy tale creatures and sends them to the swamp. Lord Farquaad also chooses a Princess so that he may become King. The princess he chooses is Princess Fiona and she is being held captive and being guarded by a dragon. Lord Farquaad is looking for someone to free the Princess for him and he makes a deal with Shrek and Donkey that if they can rescue the Princess, Shrek can have the swamp back all to himself. In pure fairy tale form, Shrek of course rescues Princess Fiona. She is grateful, thinking that her true love has risked his life so save her. The Princess orders Shrek to remove his helmet so they can share a kiss. Shrek is hesitant to show himself to Fiona and when he does remove his helmet, Fiona is very surprised and refuses to go with him. Shrek then takes her by force to see Lord Farquaad.
Fiona and Shrek start to have feeling for each other but Fiona has a secret. A spell has been cast upon her and by day she appears human but by night she turns into an ogress. The spell won't be broken until she receives her true loves kiss and takes 'love's true form'. There are several misunderstandings between Shrek and Fiona and they don't get a chance to share their true feelings and explain the secrets. They are separated from each other when Lord Farquaad and knights take Fiona back to the kingdom and Shrek goes back to the swamp. Both leave angry and disappointed in each other, including Donkey who can't get Shrek to listen to him about the truth.
In the end, Donkey does gets Shrek to listen to him and Shrek wants to get to Fiona before she marries the wrong person. Donkey and Shrek make it to the wedding and convince Fiona of Farquaads intentions. When the sun goes down Farquaad sees that Fiona is an ogress and he wants nothing to do with her. Shrek shares his true feeling with Fiona and they finally have their first kiss, but instead of turning into a beautiful princess Fiona permanently changes into an ogress. Fiona is not expecting this outcome and is quite confused. Shrek tells her that she is beautiful and the two get married and live happily ever after.
The Shrek movies have grossed over $1 billion and the first Shrek movie went on to win the first ever Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. There is lots of excitement for the upcoming musical, be there to experience the adventure.
