Radio City Christmas Spectacular Tickets for Sale
The Radio City Christmas Spectacular is a lavish tradition set at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City. This Broadway revue attracts an audience from across the nation and even across international borders. Each year the show celebrates the holidays with a production revolving around Santa Claus and the world-famous Rockettes. Radio City tickets for this upcoming 2010 revue are available now to celebrate the upcoming season of good cheer with the Christmas Spectacular.
This is a show with long-established roots dating back to 1933 when radio was still king and movie houses were palaces. That first year, the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Show accompanied a movie, Flying Down to Rio. Leon Leonidoff and Vincente Minelli crafted a show with an overture conducted by Erno Rapee and the Radio City Symphony, a Mighty Wurlitzer Organ solo, a toy shop ballet, a Russell Martin-choreographed "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers" featuring the Rockettes, and "The Living Nativity." As the years have passed and the show expanded from a 30-minute companion piece to a feature film to a 90-minute feature, the Rockettes rendition of parading wooden soldiers and a live rendition of the nativity scene have become New York holiday traditions.
The Radio City Christmas Spectacular made that jump from a short program to a long program in 1979, after the Music Hall stopped showing feature films. With each passing year, the show is wise enough to update much of the program, keeping it fresh and contemporary. Eventually the Christmas Spectacular became so sensational, the revue left the Radio City Music Hall and embarked on a full-fledged national tour.
This tour was an annual event from 1994 until 2003. Though the New York show would remain popular, the national tour lost steam and the tour ceased. The holiday spirit exhibited by Broadway could not be constrained for long. In 2008 the Radio City Christmas Spectacular once again took to the road, this time featuring the 2007 Broadway revue.
The current show includes a 3D movie to open the show in Broadway, Ring Out the Bells, Twelve Days of Christmas, the Nutcracker, the Parade of the Wooden Soldiers, New York at Christmas, Here Comes Santa Claus, Magic is There, Ragdolls, Let Christmas Shine, and the Living Nativity.
The Radio City Christmas Spectacular is scheduled to play in 25 cities across the United States, beginning in Madison, Wisconsin at the Coliseum at the Alliant Energy Center on November 10, 2010 and ending its trek in Austin on January 2, 2011 at the Bass Concert Hall at the University of Texas. The New York show at the Radio City Music Hall (1260 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10020) begins on November 5, 2010 and runs through December 30, 2010.
