 The original Oliver tickets were sold for a story that came from Lionel Bart's imagination. He wrote the music, lyrics, and book for the adaptation. His vision and Sean Kenny's rotating scenery made Oliver a sure hit and a recipient of 10 Tony Award nominations after the production moved from the West End to the Imperial Theatre on Broadway.
The most recent revival brings Oliver back to London. This time under the 1994 production of Sam Mendes is revived under the direction of Rupert Goold and at the Theatre Royal. Rowan Atkinson will play Fagin, Julian Glover will play Mr. Brownlow, Burn Gorman will play the antagonist Bill Sykes, and two of the most pivotal roles were decided after a BBC reality competition. The title character will be played by Laurence Jeffcoate and Nancy, the conflicted maiden of the underworld, will be performed by Jodie Prenger.
