The Lion King Tickets

The Lion King is both a Disney classic movie and live stage production. Really, it is this show that started Disney Theatrical, the leg of the company dedicated to creating award winning and tour-inducing adaptations of animated classics. While Disney Theatricals has grown, so has this show. Lion King tickets are no longer just for Broadway and the West End. They are also playing around the country on a tour of the United States, in Las Vegas, on a UK tour, and in several international productions, some in languages other than English.

The Broadway performances are held at the Minskoff Theatre. This is the second Broadway location for the musical. It debuted at the New Amsterdam Theatre in 1997 and transferred to the Minskoff in anticipation for Mary Poppins. The West End original production remains at the Lyceum Theatre and has remained there since opening in London in 1999. The show has been floating around the United States since 2002 and is in its tenth year with no signs of stopping. Currently, the Lion King is booked through September 2013 when the Charlotte, North Carolina engagement ends.

This is quite an accomplishment for such an unlikely success story. While the film had hundreds of animators to work with, Julie Taymor was a single person charged with directing and finding some way to recreate the incredible creatures from the animated film. Taymor found a way to bring these great creatures of the plains alive. She found makeup artists capable of transforming actors into the smaller, more manageable animals and characters and used hollow puppets for the larger creatures. A decade later these costumes remain as effective as the night the Lion King debuted. The excitement at the prospect of finding Lion King tickets for the Broadway show in New York or on tour remains as palpable as ever too. This production is likely to eventually top the list of longest running shows on Broadway and perhaps on the West End.
