The East Village Opera Company is a new and fresh project formed by multi instrumentalist Peter Kiesewalter and singer Tyley Ross. The East Village Opera Company consists of band of five members including a string quartet and two great vocalists. In April – July of 2005 The East Village Opera Company debuted with Decca/Universal Classics records and produced by Neil Dorfsman. Neil Dorfsman is himself a three time winner of Grammy Award. His credits have some international bestsellers by Dire Straits, Paul McCartney, Sting and Bjork. The string arrangements were recorded by Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra with Pauline Kim who is a lead violinist. The strings recorded in Prague.
Although the idea of The East Village Opera Company is somewhat new but has been there in the world of pop. In 1985 Malcolm McLaren who was a former punk – rock showman released an album by the name of Fans. Fans was a album of hip-hopera that incorporated electronic programming and funky beats in the works of Bizet and Puccini. However EVOC cannot be connected to this concept. It is band of eleven members whose aim is to electrify the classics and rock the opera. They made their debut in 2005 and have been doing their job very spectacularly.
The East Village Opera Company has today grasped the splashiness of rock as well as opera without essentially undermining or attacking the two forms. They have produced some amazing work and have made their mark where other classical-crossover attempts have failed. As Peter Kiesewalter says " We have profound respect for the opera. But it's so dramatic, so over the top by today's standards, that it cannot be delivered with a straight face. You need a little bit of irreverence in it." While Tyley Ross says " With modern recording technology and a wide variety of music styles at your disposal, our goal has been to approach these songs the way we feel the composers would were they alive today".

The East Village Opera Company has been heavily influenced by the Malcolm McLaren' album Fans. The album had put on opera a fresh stylish spin. The East Village Opera Company were also interested in doing something of same kind. Peter Kiesewalter wanted to combine the style of opera and rock but without disturbing the two original genres. With Ann Marie Milazoo joining them as second vocalist The East Village Opera Company completed their line-up. They soon started with their live shows and recording demos. The group was signed by Decca records and in 1995 released their debut self titled album.
