Curtains

Curtains the Musical is a musical comedy based on a book by Peter Stone. The musical is farce parodying backstage murder mystery stories. This particular mystery is set in Boston in 1959 and tells the hilarious story of the quest for the murder of an awful actor in the production of Robbin' Hood of the Old West. Curtains tickets are great for those that enjoy a good laugh as a police detective who loves theater is given the chance to have the stage as he tries to solve the murder before the curtains open on a star-less show.

The musical almost never happened as Stone died in April in 2003 before finishing the book. Instead of letting the project fall by the wayside, Rupert Holmes was hired to complete the book and Curtains tickets went on as the show found a new author to deliver the punch lines.

Curtains found a home at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles for its 23 show preview. The preview opened on July 25, 2006 and eventually made its way to Broadway with most of the script in tact. The first Curtains tickets were sold for an opening on March 22, 2007 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

Show Biography - Curtains

The original Broadway cast included David Hyde Pierce, Debra Monk, Karen Ziemba, and Edward Hibbert. The production was a hit, earning eight Tony Award nominations and winning one, with David Hyde Pierce capturing the Best Performance by a Leading Man in a Musical.

Since, then the New York show has closed, but a U.S. tour will sell Curtains tickets beginning in March 2010 for a tour organized by the Avid Touring Group. The show will also make its way to Europe for a show opening in Visby, Sweden in April 2009.
