Show Biography - Cry Baby
|
Cry-Baby is a 1990 musical that was directed by John Waters and starred Johnny Depp as the 1950s teen rebel, Wade "Cry-Baby" Walker. It also included Iggy Pop, Traci Lords, Ricki Lake, David Nelson, Susan Tyrrell and Patty Hearst. It's a spoof of teen musicals like Grease, all Elvis Presley movies and 1950s "juvenile delinquent" movies. Johnny Depp said he took the role to make fun of the teen-idol madness that surrounded him when he was on the TV show 21 Jump Street. It focuses on a group of delinquents called the Drapes and how they interact with the rest of the townspeople and the town's other group the Squares and is set in Baltimore, MD in the 1950s. Part of the movie was filmed at the Enchanted Forest amusement park, which is now closed, in Elliott City, MD.
