"Kooza", derived from a Sanskrit word means "box". The story revolves around the solitary and sad protagonist, the Innocent who is seeking his identity and place in this world. Kooza shows the greatness and limits of the human body in delivering performances that are continually demanded. New to Cirque du Soleil ("Circus of the Sun" in French), "Kooza" involves a lot of humor and slapstick in between laughs and tears in the protagonists' (a sad loner) journey of finding an identity. In his travels, the Innocent comes into contact with a myriad of nutty characters like the King, The Obnoxious Tourist and his bad dog, the Trickster etc. The backdrop is a lavish world that is thrilling as much as it is chilling. A permanent figure in the stage is a "Bataclan", which changes the configuration as the show progresses. The "Bataclan" is inspired by the east, eg:- a Pakistani bus, Indian trinkets and culture. The stage is designed to look like a beautiful starry night. Excellent physical condition with high-calibre choreography skills has come to define Cirque du Soleil and their productions , no matter what the size. 50 performing artists will participate n this show. Molded carbon has been used to make Percussion instruments to keep with the theme of the "skeleton costume". Costume designer Marie-Chantale Vaillancourt created a disco-ball like costume for the juggler which is made of small mirrored squares. Vaillancourt feared the juggler would lose his sight because the costume reflected so much light. Besides, it sounds like bones clicking on one another when the performing artists hit each other. A memorable costume is the Rat Cape". The idea is to create a visual of rats running over a performing artist's body before finally escaping. The trick would have been easy to create on television or cinema, however for a circus it is the opposite. Anyway, in the end they used a hundred and fifty fake fur rats with eyes made of crystal. The effect was finally accomplished when little wheels were added to the rats.
