Throughout the 70s and 80s, Lawrence focused mainly on her acting career. She used to perform continually on stage and on television. She has even played a number of roles at The Muny in St. Louis, which includes Lucille Early in No, No, Nanette (1990); Charity in Sweet Charity (1977); Fanny Brice in Funny Girl (1975) . The Muny in St. Louis is the one of the oldest and largest outdoor theater in America.

After this brilliant performance, she also became the member of the chorus in The Ziegfeld Follies starring Beatrice Lillie. Lawrence always felt that a person can learn a lot if they watch other stars performing and as a result would watch Beatrice Lillie perform on stage. In 1960 Lawrence appeared in a TV play The Dybbuk, that was directed by Sidney Lumet. She was quite appreciated for her role and it became one of the much talk about role and even was critically acclaimed.
