Billy Elliot Tickets
Billy Elliot is the popular and award-winning musical which is based on the film by the same name. Sir Elton John has arranged the music and Lee Hall has done the book and lyrics. The story of the musical is based on the motherless Billy, who swaps boxing gloves for ballet shoes. Directed by Stephen Daldry and choreographed by Peter Darling, the musical was first performed in 2005 at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London. The musical became an instant hit. The story of Billy and his struggle and fulfillment has clicked with audiences and it has been proposed that the show must be produced for Canada, Japan, and Germany as well.
The musical is set in County Durham, against the background of the coal miners' strike, which lasted for twelve months in 1984-85, motherless eleven-year-old Billy accidentally enters into a girls' ballet class run by Mrs. Wilkinson and is fascinated by the grace of the dance.
His fascination with the dance invariably takes him to the class and realizing his passion and potential Mrs. Wilkinson encourages his love for the dance. Without informing his family who wanted him to learn boxing, Billy goes to the dance class regularly. Mrs. Wilkinson urges Billy to audition for the Royal Ballet School in London.
Billy has two friends Michael and Debbie. Michael has homosexual feelings and Debbie is the daughter of the ballet teacher. In the meantime Billy's stern, old-fashioned father and brother are occupied in a daily battle with policemen in riot paraphernalia protecting strikebreakers. Initially when the father learns about his son's escapades, he is not at all pleased. Finally the father acknowledges his son's desire to be a dancer; he also becomes submissive to the understanding that coal mining is a dying business.

Show Biography - Billy Elliot
|
The musical is slightly different than the movie version, as in the musical more weight is given to the miner's strike and as a result its tone is a bit darker and harder-edged than the films. However the ending is inspiring nevertheless and the musical as a whole has many humorous touches. Like the movie, the Musical too has taken the world by a storm.
Billy Elliot tickets have sold throughout the world and the musical has been recognized for its musical genius. The musical opened in London on the West End in 2005 and received nine Laurence Olivier Awards, winning four awards. Billy Elliot the Musical opened in New York on Broadway on October 1, 2008 at the Imperial Theater.
The Broadway production of Billy Elliot received 15 Tony Award nominations, which tied the Producers for the most nominations ever by a show on Broadway. The production ended up winning 10 of those nominations, including a joint Tony for Best Leading Actor in a Musical awarded to the three actors (David Alvarez, Kiril Kulish, and Trent Kowalik) that portrayed the title character throughout his life.
