OnlineSeats has cheap Avenue Q tickets on sale now

Avenue Q is the place where adults go after they have grown up with Sesame Street. On the outer borough of New York City, on the decrepit Avenue Q resides a collection of misfit Muppets who curse and sing about sexual intercourse. This is not a place for Elmo, but Princeton, a college grad coming to the city with big dreams. The hit Broadway musical has been a hit at every venue, with its parody playing to the young adults that watched Sesame Street not too long ago and the parents who sit the kids down to watch the PBS Muppets themselves. Avenue Q tickets have been available around the world, with shows touring North America, playing in the West End, and making its way to Australia.

Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx wrote the music and lyrics and Jeff Whitty put together the book for this wacky adventure into a world where felt puppets talk about masturbation, racism, and homosexuality, three topics that would never be openly broached on the children's educational program. Avenue Q has characters that are human and characters that are puppets. Some of these puppets are direct parodies of the Sesame Street characters. Rod and Nick are a play on Bert and Ernie and Trekkie Monster is a play on Coolie Monster. The production even has four puppeteers that once worked on the Sesame Street.

The musical opened Off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre in March 2003 and transferred to the Broadway Stage at John Golden Theatre in July of that year. The first stage show actually played at the 2002 National Music Theatre Conference at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center in Waterford, CT. Recently, Avenue Q ended its run at the John Golden Theatre after six years and 2,500 performances and picked up a six Tony Award nominations and three wins (Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score).

Avenue Q tickets will not be leaving New York City limits though. The show will move to the New World Stages for another Off-Broadway run. Though, this move has drawn some negative publicity, as the pay scale for the puppeteers has been cut dramatically.
